rough cut one

Here is a short clip of some of the footage I have shot so far,. This is a brief idea of what the main video will be like. In the first slow motion shot I will be using after effects to make it less 'jerky' in the final cut; however at the moment it is slightly rough. However, when the female is spinning Around it has been edited to look better than the original shot.
The female in the music video is representing 'Shirley Manson'. I have chosen for the female in the music video to represent Manson due to the fact it matches the general conventions of Garbage's music videos; all of which have Manson in them.

Audience

Here is the audience research from yougov. Here it states that their audience are mainly in their mid 20's and female. They are also left wing. However from my audience research i found that mainly males in their late 30's are fans as well as females.

Influences

I've taken inspiration from many different music videos and put them all into my music video. For example I have taken the idea from 'Call your girlfriend' and the female dancing alone with headlights behind her. The audience are still able to denote the female protagonist (Robyn) dancing, however there is a mist and a silhouette about the body whilst she is dancing. In my music video I will be using car headlights to light up the female protagonist who is dancing and this will create a silhouette and/or show emphasise on her dancing (depending on whether the car headlights will be behind or in front of her).

Also i have taken inspiration for the location from the music video 'U don't have to call' - usher. The setting is a carpark an there are cars in the background with their headlights on shining in the background.
I have also taken inspiration from many music videos that involve dancing in dark areas.
I have also taken major influence from the music video, 'little boots' by motorway. I will be filming thinking much like this in the dark but I will be lit with car lights and the editing (post film) I will be editing it to have a double shadow giving it the effect of what the audience can denote in this music video. The face high a low saturation and then a high hue. This makes the audience denote that she is empty and there is a distancing effect to this.
Even though my music video 'Night Drive Loneliness' by Garbage will not be in black and white much like 'Little Boots' I will be testing how an effect looks on the music video, I feel that this will add an effect that will increase the tension.

Slow motion changes

Here there is a video of a shot from my first shoot, in which the female protagonist is spinning around and the shot is out of focus then comes back into focus when she stops spinning around.
I used after effects here, due to the fact that in Final Cut pro the 25 frames per second that the shot was filmed on becomes 'jerky' and not smooth. Therefore on after-effects i used the time-relapse do slow down the 25 frames per second without making them 'jerky'. After effects 'adds' frames to the footage therefore making the film smooth to watch unlike in final cut. This is called pixel blending. The pixels are blending together and this makes the shots closer together therefore smooth.

Digipak Planning

The digipak will have continuous colour themes on each section. The images will be the female protagonist on the front and then inside the pack there will be other images such as the image above. i will increase the hue and saturation of the still to make the image more eye catching and vibrant.

There will also be some shot of her jumping in the air and this will be on the front or the back of the digipak. I chose this to be on the front of the digipak because the blur dress stands out and if i edit the image in photoshop to make it more vibrant it will stand out more and me emphasised. Picture below. Having this image in the front and then a darker still of her still in the dress on the back cover will allow the audience to connote that there is brighter start like in a video and then it ends on a darker note. This is also how the story line of the music video plays out. I w

Below is one of their past digipaks. Initially the band began as brighter colour themes throughout the digipaks and posters. However now they focus more on daker colours such as a mossy green and blacks. I will be continuing the theme of greens and blacks but instead of it being monotone colours it will involve a person on the front and in the inside of the digipak. The still shots that i will be using above will go not he inside and the outside of the didgipak. The front cover will have the female protagonist jumping in the air. I will also edit the still image no that the hue and the intensity of the blue dress with increase. I may also include the letter 'G' which has be added to all the other digipaks.

Below there is a template of the digipak i will be creating. I will be creating my digipack on illustrator and follow the instructions given by the colouring of the lines. Making sure that the images do not go over the lines and that all the images are straight and in line.
My digipak will involve the colours green, brown and black. The colours will spread across the digipaks and the posters for advertising. Spreading the colour scheme across all aspects of the music video, advertising and digipak will also audience members to identify the band 'Garbage' and realise what they are.
